Aptech and SSI focus on government projects

Aptech Computer Education and SSI Education are focusing on government IT literacy and institutional training projects. The most recent order won by SSI Education is the Orissa Primary Education Programme Authority (OPEPA) order, for training primary and upper-primary students in over 300 schools across Orissa during the first phase, and 150 schools in the second phase. Santosh Kumar Sarangi, IAS Officer and state project director of OPEPA, government of Orissa says, “Aptech has done a good job in implementation of the Sarva Shikhsha Abhiyan Project in the 12 districts (300 Schools) allotted to them.”

Sivakumar, senior vice-president and head of institutional sales at Aptech said, “We have partnered various state governments, central government institutions, public sector undertakings, the Armed Forces, banks and other institutions.”

A brief look at the other major projects in progress throughout the country:

Orissa:

  • Training primary and upper-primary students in over 300 schools across the state during the first phase, and 150 schools in the second phase.
  • Training the government teachers in English, Science, Mathematics and compute literacy using multimedia content.
  • The Sarva Siksha Abhiyan adds an element of fun to learning and is different from the ‘only theory’ methodology.

Tamil Nadu:

q Aptech will provide training in the latest IT tools and technologies to an elite team of police personnel of Tamil Nadu, who will form the mainstay of the police force’s IT department.

Uttaranchal:

  • Training to students in 56 colleges across Uttaranchal.

Andhra Pradesh:

  • Phase-I: Expected to be complete by 2005, under this pilot computer literacy project, 23 government high schools were chosen to be computerised, work on which has begun.
  • Phase-II: 154 schools— this is an extension of the above project and part of the 1,000 school project initiated by AP government.
  • Karnataka School Project:
  • The project aims to set up Computer Learning Centres in 1,000 government schools in the State of Karnataka and Aptech has been awarded 250 schools. The schools are categoriaed as A, B and C depending upon the number of Students.

Karnataka colleges under Yuva.com:

An IT training scheme conceived and successfully lunched in May 2000 by the Department of Information Technology and Rural Development & Panchayat Raj Department, under Millennium IT policy with focus on IT training for the rural youth.

Under this scheme training centres were established in every assembly constituency. Trainees ideally include rural youths with minimum qualification of SSLC. Preferred trainees such as women, SC/ ST candidates, physically disabled and candidates from rural areas are given priority in such centres.

Training in job-oriented short-term and high-end IT courses for three–six months.

Punjab:

  • Training of students in 16 colleges in Punjab in 2003.
  • Training of 2,000 government employees.

Haryana:

  • Training at the Secretariat of Information Technology in various locations.

SC/ST Training

Andhra Pradesh:

  • SC Corporation: Aptech has provided ‘100 percent job guaranteed programme’ for unemployed SC graduates in AP.

Karnataka:

  • Courses for socially backward youths since last three years.

Tamil Nadu

  • Training of Tamil Nadu Adidravidar & Housing Development Corporation (TAHDCO); is involved in training 2,000 students across the state.

Uttar Pradesh:

  • Involved in the UPS Corporation, Kaushal Virdhi Yojna.
  • Training of more that 3,000 SC candidates in UP.
Employee Training
Andhra Pradesh

  • e-Cops: Aptech has provided basic and advance level of computer training to India’s first e-governance project of police department.
  • HRD institute of AP: This program was initiated with the objective to make AP a totally computer literate state in the government sector. The programme involves 48 hour computer training to all government employees of all departments under the supervision of the collector.
  • AP Special Police Battalions: Under a special tie up with the AP special police, Aptech provides career courses at AP police battalions.

Maharashtra

The Maharashtra government appointed Training Providers (TP) in 2000 to offer Maharshtra State Certificate in Information Technology (MSCIT) course. This certificate was made compulsory for those wishing to get into government jobs in grades A, B & C and for those who have joined the government jobs on or after January 1, 2001.

In 2002, the Maharashtra government floated a new company in the name of Maharashta Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL). MKCL is an initiative by the state government to create a new education paradigm based on e-learning technologies. It aims to create Network Access Centres in around 2,000 institutions with high-end computing facilities, broadband connectivity, rich interactive content and a variety of e-learning services. Aptech is an empanelled training provider under this scheme.

Aptech has also provided training to:

  • Department of Posts, Delhi—training of 500 employees.
  • Training of Army—EME, Signals, etc, for over 2000 participants. Order for three years.
  • Air force training done for 500 participants.
