Every weekend, TS Ushasri drives to the Karnataka
Chitrakala Parishad in Bang-alore to check the latest works of art
on display. For her it is “a great escape-away” from
the week’s hectic schedules. An avid art lover, Ushasri considers
herself fortunate that she has had the opportunity of visiting some
of the world’s best art galleries and museums in Paris, Rome
and London. She says, “Whenever I happen to visit these cities
even on some official work, I keep aside some time to visit art
museums and galleries.”
The impressionist painters have inspired her
the most, and among them the works of French painter Claude Monet
are her favourite. During one of her visits to France, she made
it a point to visit the house of Monet. “In one of his paintings
Monet had painted the garden around his house in France and when
I saw the garden it became difficult to differentiate between the
painting and the reality which stood before me,” explains
Ushasri.
Always an outstanding student throughout her
schooling and college days, Ushasri was determined to make a career
in electronics. She has always been influenced by the power of science
and electronics. During her initial schooling days Ushasri used
to regularly scan the pages of Encyclopaedia Britannica and read
about the inventions in technology and how they transformed the
human life.
She remarks, “The discovery of telephone
and the telegraph have played an important role in transforming
human lives and have changed them for the better. All these inventions
have been made possible by science and electronics and hence my
love for the subjects.”
And if she was not an engineer what would have
been her second career choice? “I would have been a writer
perhaps. I enjoyed writing poetry and acted in many one-act plays,
which my father directed. I liked the writings of Leo Tolstoy, particularly
his War and Peace. He was my inspiration source for becoming a writer.”
She later pursued an MBA from the Indian Institute
of Management (IIM), Bangalore. “My management course helped
me in gauging the pros and cons of things, especially when I was
at helm of affairs in different organisations all through my career,
which in turn helped me in better decision-making. The best part
of management is that it instills in you a confidence to face the
consequence of any decision you take.”
An early riser, Ushasri is a nature freak and
likes to relish long walks at the lush green Lalbagh Park in Bangalore
daily. Whenever she has had the time she has headed towards the
Himalayas to be close with nature. She rates Kumaon hills amongst
the Himalayas to be the most beautiful place to visit besides the
Kashmir valley. Her love for nature makes her go on long drives
to the scenic spots near Bangalore.
Her antidote for stress is simple: “I put
on Hindustani classic or English country music and sit-back and
relax—its really music to ears and soothes my mind.”
Spending time with her two children is also a great stress buster
for Ushasri. She says, “I love cooking for them and like trying
out new dishes for them. I just like picking up fresh vegetables
from the market.”
As a parent of growing up children (she has a
11-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter), Ushasri has inspired
them to be voracious readers and has kept a rich collection of books
at her home. Ushasri says, “I have always encouraged my children
to read and take them to libraries in the city. Reading really helps
them being more creative and thoughtful.”
Ushasri would like to revisit Paris and Rome
time and again. “I like walking along the Siene in Paris,
it really refreshes me and the history associated with Rome is just
amazing,” she says. The Kumaon hills remains her best holiday
destination in India.
For the time being Ushasri has kept the flag
flying high for Force Computers and is managing the affairs like
an able administrator—efficiently and confidently.
