SSI
Education is conducting an IT Training programme for Tamil Nadu
MLAs, under the auspicies of the ELCOT (Electronics Corporation
of Tamil Nadu).
Speaking
at the inaugural function of the training programme, Tamil Nadu
chief minister Jayalalitha said: One of the objectives of
the IT Policy 2002 is to upgrade the quality of life for the citizens
through e-governance and IT applications in government. Tamil Nadu
has pioneered several new schemes that later became national models.
I am sure this MLA training programme with exposure to Tamil software
would be a unique achievement of information technology initiatives
being employed for the empowerment of our legislative members.
The
first session of the training programme commenced on April 22, 2003.
The session was inspected by the minister for law and IT, D Jayakumar.
He was accompanied by Vivek Harinarain, the IT secretary and ELCOT
officials. Secretary of the Assembly, V Rajaraman, visited the SSI
training centre.
The
intensive 30 hours training programme will cover computer basics,
MS Windows, Star Office, Tamil software, Internet fundamentals,
and e-mail. The courseware has been prepared under the guidance
of Dr Ponna Vaiko, the director of Tamil Virtual University.
The
MLAs attended the training programme with great enthusiasm. The
customised courseware and the training methodology were well appreciated
and the MLAs expressed the same to the minister and other officials.
Apart
from the academic team, SSI Education has facilitation groups to
provide personalised attention to the participants.
SSI
is proud to be associated with this initiative of the chief minister
to instill a cyber culture at the highest levels of government,
said Kalpathi Suresh, the chairman and CEO of SSI.
