Nirma Institute of Technology wins the National Robotics Round

The Nirma Institute of Technology (NIT) team has emerged as the winner in the National round of the Robotics Contest recently held at IIT Kanpur. The winning team of NIT, Ahmedabad would now participate in the International Competition of Robots to be held in Japan on August 31.

Three teams, one each from IIT Kanpur, NIT-Ahmedabad and Besent Institute of Technology-Mumbai, participated in this event. Nirma won all the four of its league matches scoring a full eight points, thus advancing to the finals, IIT Kanpur, on the other hand, drew their first match (0-0) and won the second match (4-0) against Besent Institute, to face Nirma in the finals.

Nirma then defeated IIT Kanpur 9-3 and 12-5 in straight games to win the finals. The winning team would now be attending a grand “Reach the Mount Fuji”—Tokyo Robocon competition in Japan. Dr H V Trivedi, director, Nirma Institute of Technology, says “The NIT team has proved that enthusiasm, dedication, perseverance and sincere efforts of a team can acheive even the most difficult target against all odds.”

India would be one of 19 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, which will compete at the Tokyo Robocon 2002. The objective of the Robocon is to popularise the concept of Robotic games in order to upgrade technological skills of engineering students in the region to match that of advanced countries.
