CICST
(Canadian Institute of Computer Science and Technology) in Mohali
is an extension campus of Georgian College, Ontario, the third largest
community co-operative college in Canada. CICST education brings
North American education right here in India, at approximately 25
percent of the cost in Canada.
CICST
students also benefit from the latest North American teaching methods
and facilities; diplomas with global recognition from Georgian College,
Canada and transfer option to Canadian campus after one or more
years of study. The president of Georgian College, Brian Tamblyn,
opened the doors for the first batch of 50 computer programmer analyst
students in September 2000, in Mohali. The campus has a wide range
of facilities and services, including well-equipped computer laboratories,
audio-visual centres, blackboard system as a software, 256 kbps
Internet connectivity speed, latest software and hardware with Pentium
III computers, multimedia classroom, learning resource centre, bookstore,
cafeteria, recreational rooms, students residence and playfields.
The faculty of CICST is a mix of Canadians and Indians. The Indian
members are trained in Canada.
Besides
the cost factor, if a student migrates to United States or Canada,
credits earned would be transferred to any college in these two
countries. A three-year Georgian diploma (equivalent to a three-year
Indian degree), is well recognised in the global job market.
Cooperative
education in India
CICST
students will alternate a paid work term with two semesters of academic
study. This unique mix enables students to gain valuable experience
to apply their learning and prepare for a full-time career. Students
registered in co-operative programmes will be placed with prominent
local companies and MNCs and will be paid for the duration of the
term. After two semesters of study, a student is eligible for co-operative
placement. CICST students who have co-op placement can transfer
this option, if and when they do so, to the Canadian campus. The
CICST programme is modelled after the one at Georgian College, which
currently has 25 co-operative education programmes. Georgian College
also has overseas campuses in Costa Rica, Middle East, Iran and
China.
CICST
is very soon adding new educational programmes, including Hotel
and Resort Management, Engineering and Post Graduate courses in
Computers and part-time certification courses. One of the main programmes
to be started this September is Business Management in Automotive
Marketing.
CICST
is sponsored in India by WWICSthe worlds largest Canadian
immigration consultancy firm. WWICS along with its subsidiary, the
Global Placement Services, has been in the forefront of helping
thousands of professionals and businesspersons successfully immigrate
to Canada.
