CSI holds enable2002 convention

The Computer Society of India, Mumbai chapter, had recently organised its annual student convention ‘enable2002’. The convention this year focused on the path-breaking technologies that are likely to radically change our lives in the near future.

The inaugural session was addressed by Hemant Sonawala, chief executive officer, Hinditron group of companies. Sonawala, a past president of CSI, threw light on many interesting aspects of the IT industry 25 years back and how they happened to form the CSI during those days.

“Current software professionals have a greater responsibility of providing the right kind of information system, which is cost effective and ensure security,” he reminded.

As part of this convention many competitive events were organised. The events included:

Agnavali (Programming Contest): Top-notch programmers from each institute participated in this event. Participants took the online test.

Chakravuyh (Online Treasure Hunt): For the detectives on the campus, this provided a space for searching clues and arriving at the treasure site. This event led the detectives over uncharted waters and was open to all, including faculty members.

Dwi-Visharad (Designing and Debugging Contest): Designed to bring out the software designing talent in students.

Jaal Kruti Web Designing

Provided students an opportunity to exhibit their talent on the Web. The theme was assigned to the teams in advance.

Prashnamanjusha (Quiz Contest): An effort to find the cleverest of the clever in various colleges. The elimination rounds of the contest was held online.

Prastute (Paper Contest): Students were expected to write a technical/managerial paper on the topics given.

Vaad Vivaad (Group Discussion): The 12 best speakers made it to the final.

Vikalpa (Management Game): This brought out the management spirit in students and included a Business Quiz.

The speakers included: Sanjay Ahuja, Nortel Networks; Yaduvendra Singh, GTL Limited; Sonali Gogate, Microsoft; Siddhartha Khare, IBM; Vinesh Paperwala, Intel; Prof Sanyal and Prof A Sen, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research; and T Maheedharan, Aptech.
